Suzuki Australia has announced a new addition to the local Jimny range with the launch of the 2022 Suzuki Jimny Lite, which has been confirmed for for Australian shores. It will make the Suzuki Jimny more achievable for those on a tighter budget, making one of our favourite and most unique cars even more accessible. Importantly, the Jimny Lite will keep the Jimny’s awesome off-road ability and its lesser standard kit will make it more customisable for off-road enthusiasts. The Jimny Lite will launch later in 2021.
With demand being so high for the Jimny globally, the waiting time for the regular Suzuki Jimny is now six-eight months. The Japanese brand has said that the introduction of the Jimny Lite will reduce the wait time for the popular model.
To bring the cost of the Jimny down, the Jimny Lite comes without the regular car’s alloy wheels, replacing them with 15-inch steel wheels. It will also come without front fog lights, the LED headlights will be replaced by halogen projector units, there will be plastic mirror covers and most likely the most important thing for younger buyers: the 2022 Suzuki Jimny Lite misses out on the 7.0-inch colour touch screen, making way for a more basic radio system with a CD player. This means no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Mechanically, the Jimny Lite retains the existing 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 75kW of power and 130Nm of torque. The only mechanical difference over the regular model is that the Jimny Lite is manual-only with no option for an automatic gearbox for this stripped-out 4×4. We suspect that keen 4×4 enthusiasts will love the lower standard specification levels which do nothing to lower the Jimny’s rugged appeal.
Expect the 2022 Suzuki Jimny Lite to be cheaper than the standard Jimny’s $28,490 plus on road costs asking price with official pricing to be released on 1 August 2021.
