Replacing the Renault Kadjar, which has just left the Australian market, the 2022 Renault Arkana has finally gone on sale with its coupe SUV styling and new interior design. Three variants in the Renault Arkana range will be available with the entry level Zen priced at $33,990 plus on-road costs, the mid spec Intens that’s priced at $37,490 plus on-road costs and the top spec RS Line (which lands in early 2022) that will cost $40,990 plus on-road costs.
“The all-new Arkana is the latest release from an exciting new product roll-out over the next five years from Renault,” said Glen Sealey, GM, Renault Australia.
“Arkana combines sleek styling and the SUV way of life for a dynamic drive without compromising on comfort or space. On style, size, safety features – and a luxury fit and finish – we see Arkana competing more with premium players, like the Audi Q3 Sportback, as well as the more traditional competitors.”
Sitting on Renault’s ‘CMF-B’ platform that also underpins the Renault Clio, Captur and the Nissan Juke, the Arkana measures 4,568mm long, 1,821mm wide, 1,571mm tall and features a 2,720mm long wheelbase. Bootspace is measured at a healthy 485-litres with the seats up – folding them flat unlocks 1,268L of space. By comparison, a Toyota C-HR measures 4,390mm long, 1,795mm wide, 1,565mm tall and features a 318L boot.
The sole engine option in the Arkana is the brand’s familiar 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that’s current used in the Captur and was used in the Kadjar. It produces 115kW of power at 5,500rpm and 262Nm of torque at a low 2,250rpm. Power is sent solely to the front wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Thanks to the small engine and dual-clutch auto, the claimed average fuel consumption figure is just 6.0L/100km.
The base model 2022 Renault Arkana Zen is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 4.2-inch part-digital driver’s display, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, an Arkamys Auditorium audio system, faux leather upholstery, single-zone climate control and – surprisingly given it doesn’t have heated seats – a heated steering wheel.
As far as safety equipment, the Arkana comes with six airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, auto high beam, blind-spot monitoring, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, traffic sign recognition and automatic parking.
The mid-spec Arkana Intens adds three selectable driving modes, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display, a larger 9.3-inch touchscreen with inbuilt satellite navigation, heated, cooled and power-operated front seats, leather and suede upholstery, rear cross-traffic alert and ambient lighting.
The Renault Arkana RS Line gains an RS Line bodykit, rear privacy glass, gloss-black exterior accents, wireless smartphone charging, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a sunroof and carbon-look interior trim over the Intens.
Optional on the Intens is the RS Line’s sunroof and optional on both the RS Line and Intens is a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display.
Rivals to the 2022 Renault Arkana include the MG ZST, Hyundai Kona, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Toyota C-HR, Nissan Qashqai, Mazda CX-30 and Subaru XV.
