Peugeot Australia has confirmed that its first electric passenger car will go on sale locally in the third quarter of 2023. Priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs, the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 will be offered in a single GT model with a 50kWh battery, based on the spec of the petrol 2008 GT Sport. The claimed range is 328km on the WLTP cycle, and pre-orders have begun.

“The impending arrival will signify our first fully electric passenger vehicle on sale in Australia and provides us with the opportunity to further expand on the success of the 2008 SUV range.

“We are confident the e-2008 will provide discerning customers with a design-focused electric SUV and it is with great excitement that pre-orders are opening today.”

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 is a 100kW/260Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels. That is fed by a 50kWh lithium-ion battery that can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes (using a 100kW fast charger) or around five hours with an 11kW AC charger. The claimed range for the e-2008 is 328km (WLTP).

Standard equipment on the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, all-LED lighting, rain- and light-sensing automatic lights, auto wipers, keyless entry with push-button start, part-leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat with massaging functionality, heated front seats, a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, heated and auto-folding mirrors, single-zone climate control and four USB ports.

Safety kit includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane keeping assistance with lane trace assist, auto high beam, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and automatic parking.

Colour options include the no-cost ‘Orange Fusion’, as well as the $690-extra ‘Nera Black’ and ‘Artense Grey’ and the $1,050-extra ‘Vertigo Blue’, ‘Elixir Red’ and ‘Pearl White’. Five years/125,000km of servicing costs $1,522 – but buyers can choose a service pack for the same length for $1,000 at the time of purchase.
