Not long after its global reveal, MG Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the new MG HS, with the second generation of MG’s popular mid-size SUV aiming to move the brand further upmarket with a sophisticated new design, more tech and standard equipment than before. The latest HS will hit Australian showrooms later this month priced from $33,990 drive away.
“The MG HS has been completely reengineered to redefine the mid-size SUV segment in Australia. At MG, our commitment is unwavering: we deliver exceptional value without ever sacrificing quality, innovation, or cutting-edge technology and safety.” Said Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia.
“This new model exemplifies our dedication to excellence and our vision for the future.”
The new HS will be available in three trims: Vibe, Excite, and Essence. Pricing for the entry-level Vibe starts at $33,990 drive away, the mid-spec Excite at $36,990 drive away, and the top-of-the-range Essence at $40,990 drive away.
The HS plug-in hybrid, expected to be released later, will feature improved hybrid tech, and a larger battery aimed at providing even greater range than the old model, while being better to drive. Under the bonnet of the standard HS is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 125kW of power and 275Nm of torque, with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto sending power to the front wheels only.
MG is keen to point out that the HS has been thoroughly redesigned at its Shanghai studio and engineering centre, with notable changes including a more sophisticated exterior and a spacious interior.
The wheelbase has been extended compared to the outgoing model at 2,765mm and the boot space has been increased to 507-litres with the seats up and 1,484L with them folded. Despite the increase in size, there’s also been a reduction in CO2 emissions to 156g/km and fuel consumption has also been reduced to a claimed 6.9L/100km.
