Following in the footsteps of its global head office, SsangYong Australia has rebranded to KGM SsangYong and launched a new mid-size SUV: the KGM SsangYong Torres. More than two years after South Korean company KG Group invested in the SsangYong brand, its name has been applied to local versions to match global SsangYong branches, a change that’s expected to follow soon to the brand’s other products like the Rexton SUV and Musso ute. The Torres goes on sale locally in October and will be offered in three variants priced from $38,000 drive away.

“Torres is a full-sized medium SUV, cleverly designed with striking good looks and a bigger boot, so Torres owners can pack more in.” said KGM SsangYong’s National Marketing Manager, Stevan Dimitrovski.

“Us Aussies love to fill our lives and weekends with all sorts of recreational activities, and now there’s a medium SUV loaded with tech and safety features, with the room to pack more of the things we love.”

Under the bonnet of the Torres range is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making 120kW of power and 280Nm of torque. That’s mated to a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission across the range, with the entry-level ELX and mid-spec Adventure using a front-wheel drive layout and the top-spec Ultimate being all-wheel drive.

The claimed fuel combined fuel consumption for the Torres range is 7.4L/100km for two-wheel drive models and 7.9L/100km for the all-wheel drive Ultimate. CO2 emissions range from 169g/km for 2WD models to 181g/km for the AWD car, while the Torres is rated to the Euro 6 emissions standard.
