After a delay of a few years, the 2021 Audi SQ2 will finally be launched in Australia in May 2021 priced from $64,400 plus on-road costs. Featuring a 221kW engine and all-wheel drive as standard, the SQ2 will offer considerably more performance than the current top of the range 140kW Q2 40. Main rivals to the SQ2 include the BMW X2 M35i and the Mercedes-AMG GLA35 as well as more traditional hot hatches such as the BMW M135i, Mercedes-AMG A35, Audi’s own S3 and the new VW Golf R.
“The Audi S3 has a revered place in Australian performance car folklore,” said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
“Its combination of agility, energetic performance, versatility and price positioning place it within reach of many enthusiasts – such is its proven popularity over the years.
“In line with a general shift towards SUVs in Australia, including performance models, the Audi SQ2 arrives with substantial opportunity. We’re confident that it’s combination of pace and poise will see it emulate the success of other iconic S models throughout the Audi range,” said Mr Sansom.
Centrepiece of the 2021 Audi SQ2 is a 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system. Audi claims a 0-100km/h sprint of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
Priced from $64,400 plus on-road costs, the SQ2 is priced $15,000 more than the next Q2, the $49,400 40 and while that is a big price gap, the SQ2 comes fully loaded with kit and its options list is very limited – just a black exterior pack, a sunroof and privacy glass are available. In addition to that, loading a Q2 40 up to SQ2 spec makes it a $65k proposition, making the SQ2 pretty good value for money.
Standard on the SQ2 includes Matrix LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and an 8.3-inch centre screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, a 705W Bang and Olufsen sound system, heated front seats with electric lumbar adjustment, keyless entry and start, heated and auto-folding mirrors and an electric tailgate.
Safety kit includes six airbags, auto emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
