The lineup for the incoming 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan range has been outlined by Volkswagen Australia this week. Due to be released in the first half of 2021, the updated Tiguan ushers in a new look, new tech, a new model lineup and even a new diesel engine option for the brand’s popular mid-size SUV. Full pricing and details will be announced closer to the car’s launch.
Stylistically, the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan has changed a reasonable amount with new front and rear styling, a new range of wheel designs and new technology such as Matrix LED headlights. The headlights and tailights have been redesigned to fall into line with the Mk8 Golf, and the Tiguan’s grille is now larger as well for a more commanding and modern look.
On the inside of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan, new standard equipment includes USB-C charging ports, new infotainment software and even wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available on higher trim levels will be a new Harman Kardon sound system, which replaces the previous Dynaudio system.
Volkswagen Australia has decided to change the incoming Tiguan’s lineup to better fit into its global naming structure. The entry-level model will be called the Tiguan Life, the mid-spec model is the Tiguan Elegance (a model name Skoda used to use) and the top-spec model until the 235kW Tiguan R potentially arrives in 2022 will be the Tiguan R-Line – the latter is now a model on its own, rather than an option pack as is currently the case.
The Tiguan Life will be offered with two engines: the front-wheel drive 110TSI 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo petrol and the all-wheel drive 132TSI 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre 132TSI – the former will likely have a new eight-speed automatic and the latter a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
The Tiguan Elegance and R-Line will use the same 162TSI 162kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch auto/all-wheel drive as the current Tiguan Highline, while a new 147TDI 147kW/420Nm 2.0-litre diesel will also join the range using the same transmission and all-wheel drive system.
Pricing and full details of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan will be announced ahead of the car’s local arrival in the second quarter of 2021.
