Aston Martin has revealed a new addition to its DBX SUV range: the 707. Touted as the ‘world’s most powerful luxury SUV’, the 2022 Aston Martin DBX707 features a 520kW/900Nm twin-turbocharged V8 engine that’s enough to make it capable of a 3.3-second 0-100km/h sprint time. Already confirmed for Australian sales likely later in 2022, the DBX707 will go head to head against the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT in the performance SUV stakes.

Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers, said of the DBX707: “Right from its first introduction the DBX has represented Aston Martin’s dynamic and design values in a way that proves not all SUVs have to conform to the same compromises. With the DBX707 we have pushed the boundaries in every area to create a car which sets new standards of performance and desirability. The fastest, most powerful, best handling and most engaging car of its kind, it propels Aston Martin to the pinnacle of SUV performance”.

Underneath the bonnet of the 2022 Aston Martin DBX707 is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 as the ‘regular’ DBX, but in the 707, it produces a massive 115kW and 200Nm more grunt at 520kW of power and 900Nm in total – or 707 horsepower, hence the 707 name. Power is sent to all four wheels via a new nine-speed ‘wet clutch’ automatic transmission.

Aside from just the engine, Aston Martin has upgraded the DBX in other areas such as the braking – it features 420mm front and 390mm rear carbon ceramic units with six-piston callipers – and has even culled 40kg from the car’s weight. Cooling has also been upgraded with new ducts and vents, while newly available 23-inch wheels are optional (up from the 22s of the regular DBX).

The steering and air suspension have been retuned for greater sporting feel, while the active anti-roll system has been upgraded for even better handling. The DBX707 also features a new version of the electronic limited slip rear differential (e-diff). Strengthened to handle the full 900Nm of torque, it features a revised (shorter) final drive ratio of 3.27 compared to 3.07 for the DBX V8.

The exterior of the 2022 Aston Martin DBX707 has been lightly restyled with a larger grille, redesigned bumpers and a more aggressive rear diffuser for even more sporting attitude. The interior has also been changed with a lower centre console and a new drive mode system button.

Aston Martin is yet to confirm Australian launch timing or pricing, but with the standard DBX priced at $357,000 plus on-road costs, the DBX707 is unlikely to be cheap – we predict north of $500,000 plus options and endless Q by Aston Martin bespoke customisation.
