Genesis has revealed the new 2022 Genesis G80 Sport rivalling the likes of the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. Arriving on Australia shores in the fourth quarter of 2021, the new G80 Sport adds new styling and technology to the already well-rounded G80 range.
We expect the familiar 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6petrol engine from the current G80 to make its way into the G80 Sport. In the regular Genesis G80, this engine produces 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque. Genesis have confirmed that the G80 Sport will be all-wheel drive.
The new 2022 Genesis G80 Sport will feature rear-wheel steering, which will make the car more nimble at slower speeds and more stable at higher speeds, according to Genesis. We also expect the G80 Sport to feature firmer suspension and potentially a limited-slip differential to aid cornering.
Standard on the ‘Sport’ variant of the G80 will be larger 20-inch ‘G-Matrix’ alloy wheels and there will also be a choice of either red or black brake callipers. Also new on the exterior of the G80 Sport is a dark chrome grille, revised front and rear bumpers and a new rear diffuser. Also new for the new Sport model is a new colour featured here, called ‘Cavendish Red’.
Behind the wheel of the new Genesis G80 Sport, you will notice the new three-spoke sports steering wheel and some new finishes on the inside including carbon fibre, a diamond pattern and real aluminium trim. There are also sports pedals that use the same ‘G-Matrix’ pattern as the wheels and grille pattern.
More details for the 2022 Genesis G80 Sport including engine, specifications, pricing and more will be closer to the release date. For reference, the current G80 is priced from $84,900 plus on-road costs and Genesis also recently added a 148kW 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel to the range.
