After resisting pressure to make a rival for cars like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga, Ferrari has finally made a super SUV. Due in Australia sometime next year, the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue is being dubbed as the most important Ferrari in a generation and will no doubt add significantly to the company’s bottom line. Featuring a 533kW 6.5-litre V12 engine, the Purosangue hits 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds – but importantly too, it has four doors and four seats.
Ferrari said: “Since the marque’s earliest years, 2+2 cars (i.e. with two front and two smaller back seats) have played a significant role in its strategy. Many Ferraris have made combining benchmark performance with first class comfort one of the pillars of their success.”
“Now, in the culmination of 75 years of leading-edge research, Ferrari has created a car that is unique on the world stage: not only do performance, driving pleasure and comfort coexist in perfect harmony, but it is also a peerless encapsulation of the Prancing Horse’s iconic DNA. This is the reason why the name Purosangue, Italian for ‘thoroughbred’, was chosen.”
Under the bonnet of the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue is a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine that pumps out 533kW of power and 716Nm of torque. That’s matched to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system that’s an evolution from the system that debuted in the FF four-seater GT car in 2011. It can send power to the front wheels at up to 200km/h in the first four gears.
The performance figures for the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue are just as impressive as you’d imagine for a Ferrari – the 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched in just 3.3 seconds and the top speed is 310km/h.
But because this is an SUV – or a crossover, as Ferrari cleverly refers to it – practicality is just as important. Dimensionally, it measures 4,973mm long, 2,028mm wide, 1,589mm tall, sits on a 3,018mm wheelbase and has a cargo capacity of 473-litres with the seats in place.
Australian pricing and specifications are yet to be confirmed, but in Europe, the Purosangue starts at €399,000 (almost AUD$600,000), so it won’t be cheap. It will also be exclusive: Ferrari is targeting a production run of just 3,000 cars per year.
The 2023 Ferrari Purosangue will go on sale in Australia sometime in 2023. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
