Hyundai Australia has announced local pricing for the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, which lands this month. Priced from $74,000 plus on-road costs, the Ioniq 6 will compete chiefly with the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2, and is still quite rare in being an electric vehicle that’s not an SUV. Using its distinctive and aerodynamic styling for drag co-efficiency of just 0.21 and up to 614km of range, the Ioniq 6 starts at $74,000 plus on-road costs – $2,000 more than the entry-level version of its Ioniq 5 sibling.
“We are thrilled to introduce our first-ever Ioniq 6 as the latest addition to our Ioniq range,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee said.
“Ioniq 6 showcases the Hyundai brand’s technological ambition and our commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions, while giving customers an exciting, accessible and versatile EV,” he said.
As with the Ioniq 5, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be available in three trims, with two available drivetrains and one battery size for now. All models use a 77.4kWh battery that’s capable of charging at up to 350kW thanks to its 800V architecture, with the entry-level Dynamiq featuring a single 168kW/350Nm motor on the rear wheels and the mid- and upper-spec Techniq and Epiq adding a 74kW/255Nm front motor for all-wheel drive and 239kW and 605Nm in total.
The total claimed range for the Ioniq 6 Dynamiq is an impressive 614km of range, which lowers to 519km in dual-motor variants thanks to their extra power and weight. According to Hyundai, a 10 to 80 per cent charge can be completed in as little as 18 minutes. The claimed 0-100km/h sprint time for the single-motor Dynamiq is 7.4 seconds, which is reduced to 5.1 seconds in the dual-motor.
Standard equipment on the entry-level 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Dynamiq ($74,000 plus on-road costs) includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting, automatic wipers, leather upholstery and a leather steering wheel, heated 10-way electrically adjustable front seats, rear privacy glass, keyless entry and start with an electric bootlid and remote start and remote start park assist, heated and auto-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation with live traffic, digital radio, a wireless phone charger, four USB ports, an eight-speaker Bose sound system and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.
Like the MY23 Tucson, the Ioniq 6 range also includes Hyundai’s new Bluelink connected car services, which integrates functionality such as automatic collision notification, emergency call (SOS) functionality, calendar, remote services, live traffic for the navigation system and over the air updates into the car through its inbuilt eSIM.
Safety equipment includes seven airbags (including a front centre unit), auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert (both with braking), a blind-spot camera, auto high beam, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, driver attention monitoring with leading vehicle departure alert, safe exit assist, intelligent speed limit assist, rear auto braking, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree parking camera.
Above the Dynamiq sits the Techniq ($83,500 plus on-road costs), which adds a second electric motor on the rear axle for all-wheel drive, 20-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres, premium ‘relaxation’ front seats with ventilation, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a sunroof.
Finally, the top-spec Epiq ($88,000 plus on-road costs) adds digital rear mirrors, a heat pump and a battery conditioning system.
The only option for the Ioniq 6 range is matte paint, which adds $1,000 to the price.
