Not long after announcing local pricing and specifications for the 2023 Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Australia has now announced the same for its next generation X-Trail mid-size SUV. Due on sale in late 2022, the new X-Trail sits on a new platform – now shared with the new Mitsubishi Outlander – with a new engine, a more modern look and a significantly nicer interior with more technology.
“No two Australian families are exactly the same, which is why flexibility is at the core of the all-new Nissan X-Trail,” says Nissan Australia Managing Director, Adam Paterson.
“Whether you need to carry five people or seven, or whether your adventures take you on roads or off them, the fourth-generation X-Trail is designed to fit your family perfectly.
“The all-new X-Trail puts safety first, with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety and technology features — including the availability of Nissan’s semi-autonomous ProPilot driver-assist system.”
For now, a single engine choice will be available in Australia: the same 135kW/244Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s used in its Outlander twin. Like the Outlander, it’s matched solely to a CVT automatic transmission – the manual has been killed for this generation of the car – and either front- or all-wheel drive is available.
Its outputs have increased by 9kW and 18Nm, while towing capacity is up by 500kg to 2,000kg braked.
Standard equipment on the 2023 Nissan X-Trail ST ($36,750 plus on-road costs – the AWD seven-seat variant is $39,790) includes 17-inch wheels, automatic LED lighting, heated and auto-folding mirrors, roof rails, manual air-conditioning, a urethane steering wheel, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch driver’s display, roof rails and four USB ports.
Safety kit includes seven airbags (including a front centre unit), auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto rear braking, lane keep assist and departure prevention, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and auto high beam.
The X-Trail ST-L (from $43,190 +ORC – the seven-seat AWD variant is $46,290) adds lane trace assist, rear privacy glass, front fog lights, a 360-degree parking camera, synthetic leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front parking sensors, sliding and 40:20:40-split rear seats, Nissan’s ‘Divide-N-Hide’ boot management system, tyre pressure monitoring and larger 18-inch wheels.
The X-Trail Ti (from $49,990 +ORC – five-seat AWD only) adds genuine leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, LED indicators, tri-zone climate control, Matrix high beam functionality, auto wipers, an electric tailgate, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, a 10.8-inch head’s up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and a wireless phone charger, and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
Finally, the top-spec X-Trail Ti-L ($52,990 +ORC – five-seat AWD only) adds a heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, quilted Nappa leather upholstery with memory functionality for the driver’s seat, ambient interior lighting, auto-tilting mirrors, rear door sunshades, a hands-free tailgate, heated rear outboard seats and remote engine start.
Available colours include ‘Solid White’, ‘Brilliant Silver’, ‘Champagne Silver’, ‘Ivory Pearl’, ‘Gun Metallic’, ‘Ceramic Grey’, ‘Caspian Blue’, ‘Scarlet Ember’, ‘Diamond Black’, and for the Ti and Ti-L, a black roof option with ‘Sunset Orange’, ‘Ceramic Grey’, ‘Ivory Pearl’ and ‘Caspian Blue’. Premium paint option pricing is yet to be announced, as are interior colour options as well.
