Australian pricing and specifications for the 2023 Renault Megane RS Ultime have been announced ahead of the car’s July 2023 local arrival. Just 40 examples of the RS Ultime will be offered in Australia, and the special edition celebrates the end of the Megane RS, as well as the Renaultsport brand globally. Just 1,976 units will be built – a nod to Renaultsport’s 1976 inception.
“The Megane R.S. Ultime represents the culmination of a long and storied history of Renault hot hatches,” says Glen Sealey, Renault Australia General Manager.
“Indeed, Renault set the blueprint for what a hot hatch should be and has consistently delivered on that blueprint for almost 50 years: nimble, lightweight, highly-tuned engine and a chassis set-up designed for the most challenging of B-roads. This final edition Megane R.S. Ultime is the ultimate expression of the genre and a fitting way to bow out.”
Aside from the long list of standard equipment on the regular Megane RS, the RS Ultime adds black 19-inch Fuji lightweight alloy wheels with Bridgestone S007 tyres, suede Recaro front bucket seats, a numbered plate and matte black exterior decals. The special edition 2023 Renault Megane RS Ultime will be offered in ‘Liquid Yellow’, ‘Orange Tonic’, Diamond Black’ and ‘Pearl White’ colours.
Under the bonnet of the 20233 Renault Megane RS Ultime is unchanged compared with the regular Megane RS on which it’s based. That means it uses the same 221kW/400Nm (420Nm for the automatic) 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic as the two available transmission options. The claimed 0-100km/h sprint time is 5.7 seconds, while the claimed fuel consumption is 8.3L/100km for the manual and 8.0L/100km for the automatic.
Aside from the special Ultime equipment, the 2023 Renault Megane RS Ultime’s standard equipment is otherwise unchanged from the regular Megane RS, including automatic all-LED lighting, automatic wipers, Brembo brake callipers, a Torsen limited-slip differential, four-wheel steering, a 9.3-inch portrait touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a nine-speaker Bose sound system, keyless entry and start, auto-folding mirrors and an active valve exhaust.
Safety kit includes six airbags, low-speed auto emergency braking (AEB) with forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
2023 Renault Megane RS Ultime pricing (plus on-road costs):
- R.S. Ultime manual: $67,500
- R.S. Ultime dual-clutch automatic: $70,500
