Possibly the worst kept secret in the current global automotive industry, the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Five-Door has finally been revealed ahead of Australian sales later in 2023. Using the current three-door Jimny model’s dimensions but being stretched by 340mm to accomodate an extra set of doors, the five-door Jimny otherwise shares everything – engine, interior, four-wheel drive system – with its smaller sibling. Suzuki Australia has already confirmed Australian sales, but pricing is yet to be confirmed.
Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota said the introduction of the Jimny Five-Door will be another reason Australians will fall in love with Suzuki, all over again.
“With the launch of the all new Jimny Five-Door, we’ve given Jimny enthusiasts exactly what they’ve wanted for so long – an Extra Large Jimny! Jimny has built an absolute cult following in Australia and will only continue to grow with a new breed of followers that need the extra space. The launch of this new variant will only add to this model’s iconic status and will continue to be one of the most loved 4x4s in the country.”
Stylistically, the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Five-Door is virtually identical to the current three-door – save for an extra set of doors, of course. Its total length has grown by 340mm to 3,985mm long with its 1,645mm width and 1,720mm height identical to the three-door. Its bootspace is 208-litres – more than double that of the three-door – when the rear seats are erect.
Under the bonnet of the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Five-Door is the same 75kW/130Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine as the three-door, mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic – rumours of a mild- or full-hybrid system are yet to eventuate. Unlike the Japanese-built three-door, the five-door will be made in India – hopefully freeing up supply for the Jimny, which still has a long wait from factory to this day thanks to its popularity globally.
We expect Suzuki to offer two models of the Jimny Five-Door in Australia, like the three-door with an entry-level Lite featuring steel wheels, halogen headlights, a basic radio, cruise control and crucially, six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning.
The upper-spec GLX will likely add alloy wheels, LED headlights, a touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, single-zone climate control and a reversing camera.
The 2023 Suzuki Jimny Five-Door will go on sale in Australia later in 2023, with local pricing and specifications to be confirmed. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news.
