Australian pricing and specifications for the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok have been announced ahead of its local arrival from April 2023. Now priced from $50,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Core manual, the second-generation Amarok is priced up to $7,500 more than the previous model – but it’s gained a big boost in standard equipment to match the price rise. Initially, only the mid-to-upper-spec Style, PanAmericana and Aventura models will launch but the base Core and second-from-bottom Life will launch locally in around July 2023.
“The Amarok has been designed to be visually, ergonomically and dynamically distinctive; so too is the extent of its equipment and its positioning,” Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Ryan Davies said.
“We’re landing Amarok with the high-level of specification that Amarok customers absolutely demanded of us. It’s the top of the range Amaroks – Aventura, PanAmericana and Style – where demand will be by far the strongest.
As detailed in our last Amarok range overview article, the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok uses the same platform and mechanicals as the new-generation Ford Ranger. At launch, four engines will be available: a 125kW/405Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with either a six-speed manual (base Core only, unfortunately) or six-speed automatic transmission, a 154kW/500Nm twin-turbo version of the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with a 10-speed automatic, a 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel with a 10-speed automatic and a 222kW/452Nm 2.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that also uses a 10-speed auto.
Standard equipment on the entry-level 2023 Volkswagen Amarok Core (priced from $50,990 plus on-road costs for the manual and $52,990 +ORC for the automatic) includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, electric-folding mirrors, single-zone climate control, a height adjustable driver’s seat, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.0-inch digital driver’s display, a four-speaker sound system, a wireless phone charger, vinyl flooring, a tow bar (without brake controller), cargo box lighting, a part-time four-wheel drive system and a mechanical differential lock.

The mid-spec Amarok Style (from $66,990 +ORC for the four-cylinder turbo-diesel and $70,990 +ORC for the V6 turbo-diesel that also adds permanent four-wheel drive) then adds larger 18-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, a 12-inch infotainment system with in built satellite navigation, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver/eight-way manually adjustable passenger front seats, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, ambient interior lighting, a chrome rear bumper, a drop-in tray-liner, a sports bar, an insulating windscreen, an alarm, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking. $3,000-optional ‘Savona’ leather upholstery is available.
