Volkswagen Australia has announced that it’s launching a new entry-level variant of the T-Roc small SUV range. Due in local showrooms from September, the 2023 Volkswagen T-Roc CityLife is based on the current entry-level Style, though features smaller wheels, less advanced lighting and different interior trims to lower the price to $35,990 plus on-road costs.

Despite offering less kit than the upper-spec Style, standard features on the 2023 Volkswagen T-Roc CityLife are plentiful and include 17-inch alloy wheels, dusk- and rain-sensing automatic LED exterior lighting, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, heated and auto-folding mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, a wireless phone charger, an 8.0-inch digital driver’s display, height- and lumbar adjustment for both front seats and a six-speaker sound system.

Standard safety features on both the CityLife and Style include six airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto high beam, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane trace assist, front and rear parking sensors with low-speed auto braking, automatic parking and a reversing camera. The T-Roc earned a five-star ANCAP rating in 2017.


Over the CityLife, the Style adds larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a chrome front grille, a black roof and mirror caps, rear tinted windows, projector (not reflector) LED headlights, chrome roof rails and drive mode selection.

Both the 2023 Volkswagen T-Roc CityLife and Style use a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine making 110kW of power (at 5,000rpm) and 250Nm of torque (between 1,500rpm and 3,500rpm). It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels only. The claimed combined fuel consumption for the T-Roc110TSI is 6.3L/100km, with CO2 emissions rated at 143g/km.
