Ahead of a first quarter 2024 Australian introduction, the 2024 BMW X2 and its electric iX2 sibling have been revealed. As with the previous X2, the new model is a coupe-styled version of the X1 small SUV – but this time around, there’s greater differentiation between the two thanks to the X2’s more raked rear roofline and very different tailights. In Australia, just two ICE-powered models will be offered – the xDrive20i and M35i – and one xDrive30e electric variant.
According to the brand, “The BMW X2 is the car that first introduced the vehicle concept of a Sports Activity CoupĂ© (SAC) for the premium compact segment. And now the even more distinctive, even sportier and even more forward-looking second generation is taking to the stage. Significantly larger dimensions and a pronounced coupe silhouette clearly showcase in its exterior design the development leap taken by the new BMW X2.”
Based on the same platform as its X1 sibling, the 2024 BMW X2 has grown in every dimension compared with the current shape X2. It’s now 194mm longer at 4,554mm, 21mm wider at 1,845mm and 64mm taller at 1,590mm. Stylistically, the exterior now follows a coupe SUV style, rather than an SUV with a more raked roofline and is much closer to its larger X4 and X6 siblings.
The inside of the 2024 BMW X2 follows the same layout as its X1 sibling, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen joined by a 10.7-inch digital driver’s display. The touchscreen uses BMW’s latest iDrive 9 operating system, which is capable of receiving over-the-air updates, while also offering features like satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and satellite navigation.
Under the bonnet of the 2024 BMW X2 in Australia will be a choice of two 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines: the 150kW/300Nm xDrive20i or the 233kW/400Nm M35i xDrive. Both are fitted with all-wheel drive as standard equipment, and both use a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Under the body of the 2024 BMW iX2 will be the same 64.8kWh battery as its iX1 sibling, with a claimed range of up to 449km on the WLTP cycle. It uses a dual-motor drivetrain for outputs of 230kW/494Nm.
