Chery Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the 2024 Chery Omoda 5 range, which is due to land in local dealerships later this month. While prices have risen by up to $1,500, standard equipment has also been boosted, while on offer is a new GT grade that’s available in both front- and all-wheel drive, complete with a larger 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Pricing for the 2024 Omoda 5 range kicks off from $34,490 drive away.
“The MY24 Omoda 5 represents another step forward for the Chery brand in Australia, offering consumers more performance and choice, whilst maintaining the focus on value for money and Chery’s dedication to outstanding customer service” said Lucas Harris, Chery Australia Managing Director.
While Chery is yet to announce full details or release any photography (the 2023 Omoda 5 EX is pictured throughout this article), the 2024 Chery Omoda 5 GT is equipped with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 137kW of power and 275Nm of torque – that’s 22kW and 45Nm more than the 1.5-litre Omoda 5 BX and EX. The GT’s engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission – versus the lower-end models’ CVT – while both front- and all-wheel drive drivetrains are available.
While Chery is yet to announce more details about the GT, it has confirmed that it gets a new multi-link rear suspension set up. Combined cycle fuel consumption for the GT 2WD is 6.8L/100km and the GT AWD is 7.4L/100km with CO2 emissions of 162g/km and 176g/km – in 2WD form, that’s curiously 0.1L/100km and 2g/km less than the less powerful turbocharged 1.5-litre BX and EX.
Chery has also announced specification enhancements for the 2024 Omoda 5 range, including a new auto-dimming rear mirror, a higher-output wireless charger and DAB+ digital radio for the range.
