Citroen has taken the covers of the 2024 Citroen e-C3, which is the fourth generation of Citroen’s small car nameplate since the original was released in 2002. This time around, the C3 will initially only be offered with an electric drivetrain under the e-C3 name with ICE drivetrains due later. According to Citroen, the new e-C3 is the first affordable European electric car with pricing due to start at 23,300 Euros (around AUD$38,000 at the time of writing) when it goes on sale in Europe in 2024.
Citroen CEO Thierry Koskas explains: “Offering affordable vehicles has always been a major part of Citroen’s DNA. But customer expectations for vehicles in the B-segment have changed, notably with the rise in popularity of SUVs and the increasing desire to drive electric in and around our cities, and it has become more challenging for European vehicle makers to meet those expectations.”
“Uniquely, Citroen is daring to do exactly that with the all-new, all-electric e-C3 for European buyers: a fresh, sharp and comfortable B-hatch that is fully-equipped, specifically designed for and made in Europe, and extremely affordable with on-the-road prices starting at 23,300 Euros.”
Underpinned by parent company Stellantis’ ‘Smart Car’ platform, the 2024 Citroen e-C4 measures 4.01m long, 1.76m wide and 1.57m wide, which makes it 19mm longer and 6mm wider than the outgoing model, but a big 100mm taller for improved space and practicality.
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Citroen e-C3 is an 83kW electric motor that drives the front wheels, with a 44kWh lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery giving up to 320km of range on the WLTP cycle. The e-C3 can be charged at up to 100kW on a DC fast charger, which allows a 20 to 80 per cent recharge in as little as 26 minutes, while it can be charged at up to 11kW on an AC charger too. The claimed 0-100km/h time for the e-C3 is 11 seconds and its top speed is 135km/h – perfect for the urban use it’s targeted at.
In Europe, just two models will be available in the 2024 Citroen e-C3 lineup: the entry-level You and the higher-spec Max. The You is equipped with automatic LED headlights, the company’s advanced comfort suspension, auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, speed limit recognition, auto high beam, a head-up display, a smartphone docking station as the infotainment system, electric mirrors, cruise control, manual air conditioning and six airbags.
The upper-spec Max adds 17-inch alloy wheels, two-tone paint, roof rails, front and rear skid plates, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, auto wipers, auto-folding mirrors, a leather steering wheel, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, LED taillights, rear privacy glass, automatic air-conditioning, wireless charging, a reversing camera and rear power windows.
The 2024 Citroen e-C3 is due to go on sale in Europe in 2024, with Australian details yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
I bet the price for the Max version will be closer to 30.000 euro than to 25.000.
And I’m sure the 10.25-inch touchscreen will be exclusive to the Max version, in order to attract more buyers.
