Lexus Australia has confirmed that the 2024 Lexus GX will be launched locally in the first half of 2024, with local pricing and specifications yet to be confirmed. To eventually be twinned with the next-generation Toyota LandCruiser Prado, it’s the first time that the GX nameplate will be sold in Australia and it will compete with cars like the Nissan Patrol as well as the LandCruisers.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas said the all-new GX is the next step in the expansion of the local Lexus product portfolio, as the brand continues to introduce new models in new segments to meet the diverse needs of its customers.
“The GX is ideal for discerning customers looking for a sophisticated yet rugged full-size SUV to take the whole family camping and back again in true Lexus style,” Mr Pappas said.
“When it arrives in the first half of next year the GX will bolster our formidable luxury SUV line-up with its unmatched practicality.
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Lexus GX is a new 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 engine that makes 260kW of power and 650Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive system with a low-speed transfer case and a locking centre differential. A GX hybrid is planned as well, potentially using the same 273kW turbocharged 2.4-litre hybrid drivetrain that’s used in the Lexus RX500h F Sport Performance.
Using the same ‘GA-F’ platform as the larger Lexus LX, as well as the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, the 2024 Lexus GX measures 5,004mm long, 2,114mm wide and 1,935mm tall. Its 2,850mm long wheelbase matches the larger LX but it’s overall 96mm shorter.
Inside the 2024 Lexus GX is a new 14.0-inch touchscreen with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, inbuilt satellite navigation and digital radio. There’s also a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a heads-up display. A 10-speaker sound system is standard on North American models, with an optional 21-speaker system available optionally too.
There will be both six- and seven-seat layouts available, as will Lexus’ connected services and the full suite of the company’s active safety equipment, including auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The 2024 Lexus GX will also offer a new Overtrail off-road variant, which will be available exclusively in five-seat guise. The Overtrail uses the company’s ‘E-KDSS’ suspension system to improve wheel articulation and ground contact when traversing tricky terrain; while the multi-terrain select system offers six off-road drive modes (auto, dirt, sand, mud, deep snow and rock) allowing drivers to maximise traction and performance on a wide range of surfaces. The Overtrail also uses a locking rear differential.
The 2024 Lexus GX is due in Australian showrooms in the first half of 2024, with local pricing and specifications to be confirmed. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
