Lexus Australia has announced that the 2024 Lexus LM luxury MPV will be sold in Australia. Revealed overnight at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show, which is its main market globally, the second-generation LM will be hybrid-only and sold in over 60 markets globally – a big contrast to the current model, which is only largely sold in China. The LM will be based on the next-generation Toyota Alphard, which is due to be revealed later this year, though Australian new car sales for any Alphards are to be confirmed.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas, in confirming the LM will be brought to Australia, said the flagship MPV would offer customers a private oasis of creativity and relaxation with rear-seat comfort and opulence unlike any other luxury vehicle.
“The all-new LM creates a dignified, elegant and whisper-quiet cabin, with the ability for rear passengers to relax or conduct business in luxurious comfort,” Mr Pappas said.
“Combined with the choice of two hybrid powertrains and a full suite of active safety technologies, the all-new LM will be sure to delight customers who demand the ultimate comfort and convenience of a personal luxury suite.”
Measuring 5,125mm long, 1,890mm wide, 1,945mm tall and riding on a 3,000mm long wheelbase, the 2024 Lexus LM is big – 50mm longer than a Mazda CX-9, for example. It rides on a version of the ‘TNGA’ platform that has underpinned various recent Lexus products and will be offered with two hybrid drivetrains both used in the RX large SUV: the 184kW LM350h and the 273kW LM500h. The former uses a 2.5-litre engine, while the latter uses a 2.4-litre turbocharged engine.
Globally, buyers of the 2024 Lexus LM will be offered two seating layouts: either with three rows and six- or seven-seats or a flagship two-row four-seat layout. Four-seat versions are fitted with a partition between the driver and rear passengers, with a smoked panel for privacy and even a 48-inch screen for entertainment. The individual rear captain’s chairs are fitted with electric adjustment, heating, armrests, ottomans and even touchscreen panels to control the seat, air-conditioning and lighting.
The adaptive suspension, rear comfort mode and even additional bracing for superior noise reduction proves how far Lexus has gone to ensure that rear occupants are comfortable. The three-row seat layout is only available on the LM350h, while the flagship four-seat layout is offered only on the LM500h. Wheels in either 17- or 19-inch sizes are also available.
The 2024 Lexus LM will likely go on sale locally in 2024, with local pricing and specifications to be confirmed before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
