Australian pricing and specifications for the 2024 MG 4 XPower have been announced ahead of the first arrivals in November 2023. Priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs – or just $4,000 more than the lesser-powered current top-spec MG4 – the XPower variant of the MG4 punches out a massive 320kW of power and 600Nm of torque from its dual-motor electric drivetrain for a claimed 3.8-second 0-100km/h sprint time, or faster than sports cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera.
MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao said the new MG 4 XPower is proof that performance can be affordable. “The MG 4 XPower has supercar performance packed with features including launch control and a track mode inspired lap timer showing that a compact EV can be affordable, practical and spirited to drive.”
“We expect it will appeal to customers looking for a true performance car with plenty of technology and space to match. The MG 4 XPower EV also retains the generous safety equipment levels, as well as practical hatchback features, of the award-winning MG4 range.”
Under the body of the 2024 MG 4 XPower is the same 64kWh battery that’s used in mid-range variants of the MG 4 range, for a claimed 385km of range (WLTP), which is 50km less than the non-XPower MG 4. But the XPower also adds a second motor for the front wheels for a total of 320kW of power and 600Nm of torque for a claimed 3.8 second 0-100km/h sprint time.
MG has also upgraded the MG 4 XPower’s dynamics compared with the regular MG 4, with 25 per cent stiffer suspension, retuned springs and dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars. A new ‘Dynamic Cornering Control System’ has been launched with the MG 4, which features a locking electronic differential and ‘Intelligent Motor Control’ to allow torque vectoring between all four wheels. The brakes have been upgraded to 345mm ventilated discs on all four wheels with new orange callipers.
The exterior of the 2024 MG 4 XPower features new 18-inch alloy wheels, while a new ‘Hunter Green’ shade of paint will be available for an extra $1,000. On the inside are new suede and synthetic leather trimmings, as well as a lap timer and launch control.
