Ahead of a 2024 Australian release, the 2024 Mini Countryman has been revealed showing off its larger body, a significantly more modern look and new technology throughout. For the first time too, the Countryman will be available with all-electric power with up to 464km of range, while petrol and diesel drivetrains will also be produced for global consumption (Australian specifications are yet to be announced). The new Countryman will be the first Mini made in Germany as well.
“With the all-electric Mini Countryman, the largest model in the new Mini vehicle family takes the brand into an era of locally emission-free electric mobility. The first Mini to be manufactured in Germany also offers the highest possible level of environmental compatibility in production. Its versatility and powerful electric drive make it the perfect companion in the city as well as for adventures beyond,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of Mini.
Using the same platform as the new-generation BMW X1 and its iX1 electric twin, the 2024 Mini Countryman uses a 66.4kWh lithium-ion battery for up to 433km of WLTP-rated range in the Countryman SE, with the Countryman E offering more range at 464km. The Countryman SE uses a dual-motor drivetrain with 230kW/494Nm, while the Countryman E uses a 150kW/250Nm front-drive layout. The E sprints to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds, with the SE decreasing that to 5.6 seconds.
Mini is yet to reveal full details about the 2024 Mini Countryman’s ICE range of drivetrains, instead revealing that the 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, as well as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, all 48V mild-hybrids, will be available.
Dimensionally, unlike the new Mini Cooper, the 2024 Mini Countryman has grown significantly in size. Now measuring 4,433mm long, Countryman generation two is now 120mm longer, while its 1,843mm width and 1,656mm height are 22mm and 101mm greater than before, respectively. The Countryman’s wheelbase is now 22mm longer at 2,692mm. The boot now measures between 450-litres and 1,450L.
The interior of the 2024 Mini Countryman follows the Cooper’s closely with a new 9.4-inch OLED display that houses new Android-based software to control the car’s functions, which now include features like an inbuilt 5G SIM, a new “Hey Mini” voice control system and various ways to personalise it. Optionally available will be a new heads-up display, as well as a Harman Kardon sound system.
The 2024 Mini Countryman will go on sale in Australia sometime in 2024, with local pricing and specifications to be announced before then.
