Australian pricing and specifications for the 2024 Peugeot 408 Fastback have been revealed ahead of its third quarter 2024 Australian release. Priced from $67,990 plus on-road costs for the single GT plug-in hybrid variant, local pre-orders for the 408 are now open ahead of deliveries. Measuring 4,687mm long, the 408 is only 63mm shorter overall than the 508 Fastback.
Kate Gillis, Managing Director Peugeot Australia, said: “The Peugeot 408 is an artful statement where sleek design intertwines seamlessly with intuitive technology. Its allure isn’t just in its premium aesthetics; it is in its unique dynamism, innovation, and the continuation of our local electrification journey, setting a new standard for what’s possible on the road ahead.”
Initially, only one spec of 2024 Peugeot 408 Fastback will be offered in Australia: the GT plug-in hybrid. Under its bonnet is the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol plug-in hybrid drivetrain as both the smaller 308 and the slightly larger 508, making a combined 165kW of power and 360Nm of torque. That drivetrain is mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission and sends its power solely to the front wheels only. It’s not yet known if Peugeot Australia will add another model to the range, but European models are available with a 96kW 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine too.
The electrical component of the drivetrain is an 81kW/320Nm electric motor that’s fed by a 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery for a WLTP-rated all-electric range of 60km. The 408 is rated at 1.5L/100km on the combined fuel consumption cycle with CO2 emissions of 30.2g/km – of course, this will depend on how much it is charged. The 408 GT Fastback PHEV features a charging maximum of 3.7kW so regardless of if it’s charged with either a 7.4kW or 11kW charger, a full charge will take around 3.5 hours. Using a domestic 10A electric plug, a full charge will be completed in around six hours.
