Australian pricing and specifications for the 2024 Polestar 3 have been announced ahead of the car’s first quarter 2024 local launch. Twinned with the new Volvo EX90 and priced from $132,900 plus on-road costs, the Polestar 3 is the brand’s first SUV and will compete with other premium electric SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Genesis Electrified GV70 and Audi e-tron. The order book for the Polestar 3 is now open, with the company reportedly having received over 7,000 expressions of interest for it.

Commenting on the pricing announcement, Head of Polestar Australia, Samantha Johnson, says: “Polestar 3 is a highly anticipated addition to the Polestar range in this market. Last year, SUVs represented 53% of new vehicle sales in Australia, a tally that has more than doubled since 2010.

“We know Australians want more electric vehicles that are ‘fit for purpose’ and with Polestar 3 we will deliver just that – a new, premium benchmark for driving excellence, technological integration and sustainability for the electric age.”

Initially, the 2023 Polestar 3 will be available in two models: the $132,900 plus on-road costs Long Range Dual Motor and the $140,900 Performance Pack. The Long Range Dual Motor’s claimed WLTP range is up to 610km, while the more powerful Performance Pack lowers that to 560km.

Both use a dual-motor all-wheel drive set up, with the Long Range Dual Motor producing 360kW of power and 840Nm of torque, which enables it to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.0 seconds. The Performance Pack increases outputs to 380kW of power and 910Nm of torque, and lowers the 0-100km/h sprint time to 4.7 seconds.

Standard equipment on the 2024 Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor includes 21-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting with auto wipers, a panoramic glass roof, laminated privacy windows, textile upholstery with heated electric front seats with driver’s memory, tri-zone climate control, a heat pump, keyless entry and start with a hands-free power tailgate, frameless heated and auto-folding mirrors, a 14.5-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive software, inbuilt Google Maps, Google Assistance and Google Play Store, an integrated eSIM with three years of connectivity, digital radio, four USB-C ports, a wireless phone charger, one-pedal driving, air suspension with adaptive dampers, drive mode selection and Brembo front four-piston brakes with gold painted callipers.

Safety equipment includes nine airbags (including two front centre units), auto emergency braking (AEB) with braking and steering support for vehicle, pedestrian and cyclists, lane keeping aid with steering support, automatic post-impact braking, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, road sign information, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert with braking, rear collision warning and automatic braking, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

Standard at launch (but likely optional afterwards) is the Plus Pack, which includes a 1,610W 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, soft-closing doors, a powered steering column with memory, heated wiper blades, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, ‘MicroTech’ or wool upholstery, recycled aluminium interior trim, an infra-red windscreen, a rear cargo organiser and diamond cut wheels.

Also standard at launch is the Pilot Pack, which adds a heads-up display, automatic parking and ‘Pilot Assist’ highway steering, acceleration and braking support at up to 150km/h.

Option packages from launch include the $6,000 Pilot Pack with LiDAR with added radars for potential future autonomous driving, including long-range LiDar from Luminar, as well as three extra exterior camera, four additional ultrasonic sensors and a cleaning system for the cameras. The $9,000 Performance Pack adds more power, larger 22-inch wheels, a sportier chassis set up, Pirelli P-Zero tyres, gold coloured valve caps and seat belts, a gold interior light line and a range optimisation drive mode.

Solo options include $3,000 1.3 megapixel HD LED headlights, 22-inch wheels, $7,500 Nappa leather upholstery with ventilation and massaging for the front seats, $2,000 metallic paint (‘Magnesium’ silver is the only no-cost option with ‘Snow’ white, ‘Thunder’ grey, ‘Jupiter’ rose gold, ‘Midnight’ blue and ‘Space’ black costing extra), un-tinted windows and a fully-electric folding tow bar ($TBA).
