Not long after its global reveal, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny XL has been launched in Australia. Priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs – or $3,000 more than the regular three-door model – the Jimny XL adds 340mm of metal, two extra doors and a bit more standard equipment, including a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and reversing sensors over its cheaper cousin.
Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota said the introduction of the Jimny XL will be another reason Australians will fall in love with the Suzuki cult classic, all over again.
“Jimny has a rich heritage not only in Australia, but globally. With its iconic design and unbeatable off-road performance, it has become the ultimate choice for enthusiasts worldwide. With the addition of XL to our Jimny line up we’re giving drivers the best of both worlds – legendary 4×4 performance and the extra space and versatility for that ‘eXtra Large’ adventure. The anticipation for the launch of this car has been crazy to say the least, and we can’t wait to see thousands of them on Australian roads in 2024!”
Compared with the regular three-door Jimny, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny XL has grown by 340mm to 3,820mm long, while there are an extra pair of rear doors (with electric windows) as well – the boot measures 211-litres with the seats up and 332L with the seats folded. Structurally, the Jimny XL adds a new centre cross member to enhance rigidity, while the front suspension has also been changed. The Jimny XL weighs 90kg more than the three-door model at 1,185kg for the manual or 1,200kg for the automatic (kerb).
The Jimny XL’s 75kW/130Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine remains the same as the regular Jimny, as does its five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission options. Despite the extra weight, the Jimny XL’s claimed combined fuel consumption ratings are also the same as the three-door model at 6.4L/100km for the manual and 6.9L/100km for the auto. The Jimny XL keeps the three-door model’s 210mm ground clearance, while its approach, breakover and departure angles are 36 degrees, 24 degrees and 47 degrees, respectively.
