Kia Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for its EV5 electric SUV, which is now on sale locally. Priced from $56,770 drive away, the 2025 Kia EV5 will be offered in three models locally for now: Air, Earth and GT-Line. With a range of up to 555km (WLTP), the EV5 rivals mainstream electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Toyota bz4X and Subaru Solterra twins and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Kia Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Damien Meredith, said “EV5 marks a significant milestone in Kia’s global journey to increase access and take-up of electric vehicles.”

“As we affirm our commitment to becoming a leading sustainable mobility provider, we’re pleased to announce pricing and key features that give EV5 a competitive edge in the local electric vehicle market.”

Riding on a new ‘N3 eK’ platform that’s different to the ‘E-GMP’ platform used by its EV6 sibling, the EV5 will be offered locally with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options: a 64.2kWh standard range unit with 400km of range (WLTP) or a larger 88.1kWh long range unit for up to 555km of range (WLTP) in the Air Long Range variant.

Using a 350kW DC fast charger, the EV5 standard range can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 36 minutes, which is two minutes faster than the GT-Line. Using a more common 50kW charger, that increases to 57 minutes and 72 minutes respectively. Using an AC charger, the standard range can be fully charged in just under 10 hours (up to 6.6kW) and the long range in just over eight hours (up to 11kW).

There are two powertrains available in the 2025 Kia EV5: a 160kW/310Nm single motor drivetrain in the Air and a 230kW/480Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive unit in the Earth and GT-Line. The 0-100km/h sprint happens in as little as 6.1 seconds in the Earth and as much as 8.9 seconds in the Air Long Range.

Built in China, the 2025 Kia EV5 uses BYD batteries and has undergone an extensive local ride and handling tuning program to better suit local roads.
