Sales of new vehicles in Australia have rebounded as COVID-19 restrictions continued to be eased, according to official new-car sales figures for May 2020. May has seen a 54.5 per cent increase in sales from the April this year.
Whilst new-car sales dropped by 48.5 per cent in April, the largest decline we’ve seen in at least 30 years, May’s 35.3 per cent decrease in sales on last year is clear evidence that sales of new vehicles in Australia are starting to ramp up again.
Figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries show that a total of 59,894 vehicles were sold in May 2020, which is still severely down on the 92,961 cars sold in May 2019. Toyota still leads the pack by a healthy margin.
Toyota continued to hold gold, with half of the top 10 cars coming from the company.
