With local deliveries commencing from today, Australian pricing and specifications for the Smart #1 and #3 electric SUVs have been revealed. Priced from $54,900 plus on-road costs for the #1 and $57,900 +ORC (said hashtag one and hashtag three), the two new Smart models are based on the same Geely ‘SEA’ platform that also underpins the Volvo EX30 and Zeekr X and offer up to 455km of driving range.
Mandy Zhang, Global CMO of Smart Automobile said, “We are proud to introduce the smart #1 and smart #3 to Australia, a place renowned for its diverse geography and ecology. As a brand always committed to exploring the best solutions for future mobility, smart’s vehicles are a perfect fit for the nation’s eco-conscious and tech-savvy customers.”
“We are excited to begin providing our premium sales and after sales services to Australians together with Lei Shing Hong.”
Based on a Geely – part-owner of Smart, along with Mercedes-Benz – platform with a 66kWh NMC battery, both the Smart #1 and #3 are offered in three variants: entry-level Pro+, mid-spec Premium and top-spec Brabus. The Pro+ and Premium use a 200kW/343Nm rear-mounted electric motor, good for a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds and a claimed 420km of range (WLTP) for the #1 Pro+, while the #1 Premium adds a heat pump for more range at a claimed 435km (WLTP). The #3 is quicker and more efficient at a claimed 5.8 seconds, while its range claims are 440km and 455km respectively.
Above the Pro+ and Premium sits the Brabus – yes, the famous German tuning house – which adds a front-mounted electric motor for a dual-motor all-wheel drive system making 315kW/543Nm and 0-100km/h sprint times of just 3.9 seconds for the #1 and 3.7 seconds for the #3. Top speed for all variants is 180km/h. Both the #1 and #3 can be DC fast charged at up to 150kW for a sub-30 minute 10-80 per cent charge top up, while Pro+ variants can be AC charged at up to 7.4kW and Premium and Brabus at up to 22kW for the same 10-80 per cent charge in 7.5 hours and under three hours respectively.
